Behaviour Mentor

Required from September 2022,

Governors of this popular, successful and highly over–subscribed 11-16 High School are seeking to appoint a committed, motivated, enthusiastic and well qualified Behaviour Mentor (Grade 8).  The successful applicant will be employed to work 37 hours per week (term time only + 5 additional days) and will join a strong and supportive department that is dedicated to supporting the students of the school.

The Elton High School is a significantly oversubscribed School with a tradition of excellence.  We have a history of high achievement with results reinforcing our excellent reputation within the local authority and placing us amongst the higher proportion of schools nationally.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection (February 2022) reiterated the strengths that had been confirmed in the previous report (2017) and are firmly embedded across our school.  The inspection team noted that ‘pupils are proud to attend’ Elton with an established culture of ‘high aspirations for what pupils can achieve’.   Our students achieve well, with the inspectors being particularly impressed with the climate for learning and behaviour of our students – their ‘positive behaviour at all times is characteristic of the respectful culture of this school [and] their positive conduct reflects leaders’ high standards’.

The progress that has been made across the school is not through chance or by accident, but is due to a relentless focus on teaching and learning, while developing the talents of an outstanding team of staff.   The post of Behaviour Mentor sits within the Student Support Team, which is overseen by our Deputy Headteacher (Mrs Johnson – Behaviour & Personal Development).  We have three Behaviour Mentors in total, working closely together to provide support and dealing with a wide range of issues on a day to day basis.  The Behaviour Mentors liaise closely with the Learning Co-ordinators for each separate year group, as well as working alongside other members of the team including our School Counsellor and Attendance Officer.  Further details about the post can be checked through the Job Description, while you are also welcome to contact school to discuss the role further (johnsonc@eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk or helmev@eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk)

We have a strong system of staff training in place aimed at developing the very best practice while we have a constant focus on ensuring that all of our team feel supported to give of their best and to have a work life balance. We pride ourselves on taking a proactive approach to promoting the wellbeing of everyone in our school community, and to ensuring a work / life balance for our staff.

The school has excellent transport links with the M60, M61, M62 and M66 Motorways crisscrossing the area plus the Metrolink Light Rapid Transit system with a fast and frequent service from Bury centre through Manchester city centre to East Didsbury.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS.

Please visit our school website for an application pack.  Closing date: 10.00am on Friday 1 July 2022.
