The Doreen Blake Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is the hub of our school and is used on a daily basis by pupils wishing to do homework, use the computers or read for pleasure. Mrs Barker is the full-time LRC Manager and is always available to provide support and guidance. A team of Pupil Library Assistants help to keep the LRC running smoothly.
A network of 24 computers allows pupils to access the Internet, their own work areas and the library catalogue.
We also provide a variety of magazines which students are encouraged to read in order to develop their academic interests and knowledge of current affairs.
The LRC is open from 8.20 am and pupils are welcome to use it before school, during break and at lunch time.
All students and staff automatically become members of the library and are entitled to borrow two books for a two-week period. Year 7 students receive a library induction to help them become familiar with the workings and benefits of the LRC and to ensure continued use throughout their school life.
Homework Club takes place in the LRC every Monday to Thursday from 3pm – 4pm. Pupils will find a quiet environment in which to do homework or revise for exams. Mrs Barker supervises Homework Club and provides support to pupils.
We use the Accessit library management system, which allows students to search the library catalogue at home and at school, as well as search other external websites using the One Search facility.
