The Doreen Blake Learning Resource Centre

The Doreen Blake Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is the hub of our school and is used on a daily basis by pupils wishing to borrow books, read for pleasure, do homework, do crafts and use the computers. Miss Lythe is the full-time LRC Manager and is always available to provide support and guidance. A team of pupil librarians and prefects help to keep the LRC running smoothly.

A network of 16 computers allows pupils to access the Internet, their own work areas and the library catalogue.

We also provide a variety of magazines which students are encouraged to read in order to develop their academic interests and knowledge of current affairs.

The LRC is open at break and lunchtime daily.

Homework Club takes place in the LRC every Monday to Thursday from 3.10-3.50. Pupils will find a quiet environment in which to do homework or revise for exams. Cover supervisors and Miss Lythe are there to supervise Homework Club and provide support to pupils.
All students and staff automatically become members of the library and are entitled to borrow two books for a two-week period with an option to renew their books if they need to. Year 7 students receive a library induction to help them become familiar with the workings and benefits of the LRC and to ensure continued use throughout their school life.
We use the Accessit library management system, which allows students to search the library catalogue at home and at school, as well as search other external websites using the One Search facility.
All students at The Elton High School also have free access to 1800+ eBooks via ePlatform. Students can access ePlatform from any electronic device at home or within school.
ePlatform is an excellent resource that supplements and extends our physical book collection. All eBooks have a two-week loan limit and students can borrow two titles at a time. Students can return their eBooks early if they desire and when their loan has expired, their eBooks will automatically return or they can renew them for longer.
