We are committed to protecting and educating our students to stay safe in all aspects of their life and recognize online safety is a critical part of a young person’s education in this technological age. Furthermore we recognise that parents also need advice and guidance to protect their children online outside school hours.

We recommend that parents take a real interest in what their children are doing online via phones, computers, tablets or gaming consoles. Having routine conversations and checking devices can help to highlight any potential safeguarding issues which might arise.

TOP TEN ONLINE SAFETY TIPS!
1. Use internet filtering software and child friendly search engines.
2. Find out what child protection services your Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers.
3. Keep computers and other devices in a room where it is easy to monitor your child’s online activity.
4. Inform your children that they should not give out any personal details.
5. Encourage your child to tell you if they feel uncomfortable, upset or threatened by anyone online.
6. Set time limits for your child’s online activity.
7. Make sure your child has a strong password when accessing online services.
8. Surf online together so that you become part of your child’s online life.
9. Have regular discussions about ways to stay safe online.
10. Report any online abuse via CEOP (www.ceop.police.uk).

Please remember that Social Media Sites (e.g. Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, Instagram etc) have a minimum age requirement of 13+ in their terms and conditions.  Also Whats App and other internet based messaging services can only be used by 16 year olds and over.

If at any point you have any concerns about the online safety of your child safety please report it to CEOP (a police led online crime and safety service) using this link:

CEOP always recommend the following;

  • If you need urgent help, i.e, your child is in immediate danger such as meeting a stranger they have met online, then call 999.
  • Do not delete any emails, images or conversations related to your report.
  • Do not contact the suspect yourself. Let CEOP do the detective work.
