Update for return to school – Jan 2022

Happy new year to you all! I hope that you and your families have all had an enjoyable and restful festive break.

We are starting 2022 with further challenges presented by the pandemic and we will continue to work closely with yourselves to ensure that we keep disruption to your child’s education to an absolute minimum.

Face Coverings

You may be aware that the government has announced that face coverings should be worn in classrooms as well as communal areas around the school. This will be in place from when we return this week until later in the month, when it will be reviewed by the government. Please ensure that your child brings a mask to school on a daily basis – we have some spare masks in school but supplies are limited and it is also a significant drain on our financial resources. If your child is exempt from wearing a face covering, then please ensure that they wear a lanyard so that it is visible to staff. If your child requires an exemption lanyard, then they should see Mrs Filkins (School Business Manager) through the school reception.

We are open on Thursday 6th January for Yr 7 and Yr 11 only to attend school following their Covid tests. Years 8/9/10 should come into school on Thursday at the allocated slot for their test – click here for the schedule which was sent prior to Christmas.

On Sunday we received further guidance from the Department for Education that asks for ALL students to be tested, even if it is within 90 days since their positive COVID test; this is a change to the advice we issued before Christmas.

The guidance states “Even if someone has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, they are strongly encouraged to take part in LFD testing on-site through ATS or at home once they have completed their isolation period for their prior infection.”

We  encourage all students to attend school for testing on Thursday, as it is one of the ways we can limit transmission of the virus within our school community.  We will also still be asking your child to complete regular testing (twice per week) for the foreseeable future.  Test kits will be available from school.

As mentioned above, the schedule for testing is attached to this email. As always, if you have any questions about these processes then please contact myself (wiltonj@eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk) or Mrs Filkins (filkinsj@eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk) directly. We look forward to seeing your child back in school for the new term and thanks again for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan Wilton.
